About Irish Channel
The Irish Channel is a neighborhood found in New Orleans that was born out of the working, middle class. It has always been a middle class type of neighborhood and has recently undergone a restoration and renovation. The neighborhood still remains as one of those quintessential choices in New Orleans.
The neighborhood is found near Tchoupitoulas and Magazine Street and bound by Louisiana and Jackson Avenues. It was once home to many dock workers, but over the years the neighborhood has changed.

Common home styles found throughout the Irish Channel include single shotgun, double shotgun and cottages. Some still need to be restored, but many homes throughout have been restored beautifully.
Many of the homes include plenty of Victorian millwork and other Victorian details. Along with single-family homes, the Irish Channel is home to some townhomes and even some center hall cottages.
Most of the houses are very close to each other and it's possible to drive down the street and see identical houses in a row. However, the community is very colorful and it's even historic with plenty of old world charm. The streets are also lined with beautiful oak trees.
Shopping, Dining & Entertainment
Plenty of local businesses are found throughout the neighborhood including restaurants, boutiques, shopping options, bars and service oriented businesses. Plenty of shopping can be found on Magazine Street in the Irish Channel, along with coffee shops and restaurants.
Both Tracey's Bar and the Parasol's Bar offer excellent choices for nightlife. Parasol's is known for the po-boys and the firecracker shrimp. In addition, residents enjoy the Rum House for a drink and the Coquette for a more upscale dining experience.
The Irish Channel is also home to the Irish Channel St. Patrick's Day Parade, which is an annual event. This is one of the top area events, but many other events happen throughout the month of March for St. Patrick's Day and other times throughout the year.
Along with the shopping, dining and nightlife, the Irish Channel is home to the Gallier House and the Gothic-style St. Patrick's Church. It's also home to many other landmarks showing off the history of the city and the neighborhood.
Clay Square is found in the Irish Channel and offers one of the top area green spaces. It's a good place to go for exercise and time outdoors. In addition, Audubon Park and the French Quarter are not far away. Residents can certainly enjoy the best New Orleans has to offer in a historic neighborhood.
Living in Irish Channel
Whether you choose the Irish Channel because it's more affordable than the French Quarter or you choose it for the actual location, you're certainly going to enjoy living here. The neighborhood provides plenty of history and beauty throughout with a location convenient to some of the top areas in all of New Orleans. Living in Irish Channel will put you right on the edge of the action with plenty to do and enjoy within walking distance.
